ZIP SHA-256—

Open source with included licenses

XA DevHub 1.0.6 is licensed under AGPL-3.0-or-later. The source viewer and ZIP contain the same reviewed files, including LICENSE, NOTICE, and dependency licenses. Private examples use neutral placeholders; public project attribution is preserved.

01 · Start here

Open the app and give it one project to track.

You can use project and ticket tracking without a Discord bot or an AI agent. If DevHub is already installed, go straight to your first project.

Start with the portable Windows ZIP

The latest portable package includes the ready-to-run application. The reviewed v1.0.6 source snapshot and companion skills are separate downloads. You can also check GitHub Releases for published packages.

  1. 1

    Download the current Windows package

Use 64-bit Windows 10 or newer. Download the portable ZIP above and compare its SHA-256 with the displayed checksum.

  2. 2

    Extract the complete ZIP

Choose a writable folder and extract all files. Keep the application, runtime DLLs, notices, and licenses together. Do not run the app from inside the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Launch DevHub

Open devhub.exe in the extracted folder. The Dashboard is your starting point. A second launch focuses the existing window. A fresh database contains a path-free My Project starter entry you can edit or delete.

  4. 4

Locate your data and set backup retention

Open Settings, then open data folder. This is where your private records live; the default is data\ beside the executable. Under Backups and portable exports, choose versions to retain and select Save maintenance settings.

Build the reviewed source snapshot instead

Install Visual Studio 2022 with Desktop development with C++, CMake 3.20 or newer, Python 3, Git, and vcpkg. Extract the reviewed source ZIP, then follow CONTRIBUTING.md. The numbered build wrapper creates build\Release\devhub.exe and can close and restart its own existing DevHub installation.

Ready to use it? Add your project, save a ticket, and return to the Work Queue when you want to choose what to do next.

02 · Find your way

Each page has one clear job.

DashboardSee project workload, versions, recent completions, Discord feedback, credits, and configured Build, Prep, Release, or Version actions.
Work QueueFilter active work across every project by status, priority, dates, blocked state, project, type, or text.
ProjectAdd and edit fixes, implementations, references, and notes; manage contributors, evidence, dates, and release text.
DiscordConnect the optional bot, choose monitored channels, review suggestions, and inspect notification delivery.
KnowledgeCapture reusable facts and decisions, start workflows, draft reports, review conflicts, and check knowledge health.
CalendarReview completions, events, releases, due dates, and pipeline runs by day.
CreditsPreserve contributor attribution, correct duplicate identities, and prepare a public-friendly leaderboard.
SettingsSet the visual name, completion window, and backup retention; open the data folder, inspect the local API address, and create backups or exports.

03 · Add a project

Start with only the information you actually have.

  1. 1

    Name the project

On the Dashboard, enter a name in new project name... and choose Add project. You can also edit the starter My Project entry.

  2. 2

    Set its working path

Open the project, then choose Edit project. Set working path to the folder you work in, such as C:\Projects\MyApplication, then choose Save. Use the project folder button to check that it opens the intended location.

  3. 3

    Add optional discovery details

Add a description or repository URL if useful. Aliases, version tracking, Discord visibility, and Codex skills can wait until you use those features. The Codex skills field names skills for copied packets; it does not install them.

  4. 4

    Add commands only when ready

Build, Prep, Release, and Version commands are project-specific. Empty commands stay hidden from the Dashboard.

Using Codex?

After installing the skills, run $devhub-add-project C:\Projects\MyApplication to discover conservative metadata, prevent duplicates, save the complete project record through the API, and verify it by readback.

04 · Manage work

Capture quickly, then add detail where it helps.

ADD

Create one ticket

  1. Open the project.
  2. Use quick add: title….
  3. Choose Fix, Implementation, Reference, or Note, then select Add.
  4. The ticket is saved immediately as I<id>, then its editor opens. Cancel closes the editor without removing the ticket.
EDIT

Make it actionable

  1. Set priority and status.
  2. Use edit text to write the request; details shows its readable preview.
  3. Add due, review-again, or blocked fields when useful.
  4. Choose Save.
DONE

Close it truthfully

  1. Add the final evidence or outcome.
  2. Complete only after fresh verification.
  3. Use won't do when that is the actual decision.
  4. Delete only after checking the exact ID and title.

Try a first ticket

Create an Implementation titled Add a setup guide. In edit text, write what a new user should be able to do and how you will check it, then save. Use Work Queue to find it again. When work begins, change its status to in_progress; if a missing decision stops progress, use blocked and record what is needed. Add the result and verification before completing it.

Priority: P1 is low, P2 normal, P3 high, and P4 critical. Due date is a deadline; review again is when to revisit the item. In the ticket editor, contributor add/remove/credit actions save immediately.

A simple daily routine

Open Work Queue, narrow it to your project and active work, choose one ticket, and record the next action. Before finishing, save the result or blocker and add a review date when it needs another look.

Organize active tickets

Use $devhub-cleanup-tickets with a project name to review title and duplicate-merge proposals. Approved merges preserve notes, contributors, attachments, and history. Existing Discord notification cards may update when a title or merge is saved.

Clarify a request before filing

Use $devhub-interview to discuss the expected outcome and acceptance criteria. $devhub-create-ticket calls it when essential details are missing and waits for your answers before saving. Clear requests proceed normally; a discussion or draft alone creates no ticket.

Find quick requests

Use $devhub-prioritize-tickets with a project name to rank active requests by implementation and verification effort and review every title. High/P3 means quick, normal/P2 means moderate, and low/P1 means substantial work. The current control contract supports ranking and title proposals only; this workflow makes no ticket changes until a documented priority-update action is available.

Duplicates are not deletions

Merge duplicate feedback so the surviving ticket keeps contributor and source lineage. Deleting a ticket removes its database attachment records but intentionally leaves saved files for manual retention or cleanup.

05 · Optional project commands

Run each project's own workflow without memorizing commands.

Build · Prep · Release

Use saved project commands

Buttons appear only when configured. Output opens in DevHub's live console. Release requires an explicit confirmation before the command starts.

Ver (version)

Change the final component safely

The Ver button runs the version action. Automatic increase or decrease changes only the final numeric component by one. Use manual entry when an earlier version component must change.

  1. 1

Use a command that already works for the project

Open Edit project. Put the project's real build command in build, its packaging command in prep release, its publication command in send release, or its version helper in update version. These scripts belong to your project; DevHub does not create them.

  2. 2

    Check where it runs

Commands run in working path unless working dir override is set. Quote script paths containing spaces. Save the project, select the relevant button, and read the console output if it fails.

Pipeline commands and their working folders come from the selected project's saved configuration. The local API does not accept a replacement command or working directory from a request.

Python and version checks

Configure a launcher the running app can find, such as py -3 "Update_Version.py" --devhub or the full installed launcher path. A repository link alone does not configure comparison: set the local version file and a remote version URL, then refresh versions. A GitHub main-branch file tracks public source; a release tag or release manifest tracks a published release. Updating a version changes source metadata; it does not rebuild the application.

06 · Hand work to AI

Copy the smallest packet that answers the question.

One active ticket

Right-click its title

Choose Copy AI review bundle to copy that exact ticket without opening the selector. Completed and won't-do tickets are excluded.

Several active tickets

Use the project's AI button

Search and select only the open, in-progress, or blocked tickets the next session needs. DevHub revalidates the selection before copying it.

  1. 1

Paste the packet into the project session

It includes IDs, details, evidence, workspace context, hashes, skill routing, and safety boundaries.

  2. 2

    Record confirmed findings

Put decisions, evidence, requested changes, blockers, and the next action back on the owning ticket or workflow.

  3. 3

    Keep authority explicit

A packet supplies context. It does not authorize edits, builds, publication, deployment, deletion, or a broader task.

Give the agent a clear request

For review, paste the bundle and say: Review these tickets against the current code and tell me what remains. Do not change anything. For implementation, name the ticket and the changes you want. The copied packet supplies context; your message supplies the task.

Optional collaborative review

Use the existing Copy AI review bundle action, paste its result into your agent session, and ask $devhub-interview for a collaborative review. It examines request clarity, a lean solution, maintenance cost, and acceptance before asking consequential questions. Ordinary processing remains available. This is a skill workflow and adds no new application menu.

Copy release draft is different

It uses recently completed work and contributor names as material for release prose. It does not version, tag, publish, upload, or deploy anything.

07 · Optional Discord feedback

Review a suggestion before it becomes work.

  1. 1

    Connect a bot you control

Create a bot in Discord's developer portal, enable Message Content Intent, and invite it to your server with read/history access to the channels you want to monitor. Enter its token under Discord → Bot and choose Save token + connect.

  2. 2

    Choose trusted administrators and monitors

Enter numeric user IDs in the admin/developer whitelist and choose Save whitelist. Under Monitors, enter the server ID and optionally a channel ID, then select Add monitor. A server-only monitor covers every channel the bot can read.

  3. 3

    Review the inbox

Open Edit pending to refine the notes, title, type, priority, or project. Choosing a project enables Save as ticket, which promotes the suggestion. Use clear - keep pending and Save pending to save edits without promotion.

  4. 4

    Choose what becomes a ticket

Approve useful feedback or choose Save as ticket to create a credited ticket and fetch eligible attachments. Dismiss unwanted suggestions to change their DevHub review state; the original Discord message remains in Discord.

  5. 5

    Correct attribution deliberately

Use Credits → merge with when the same person has duplicate or mistaken identities.

Set up optional notification cards

Under Bot notifications, choose a destination channel the bot can post to and select Save. Save + send test sends a real test card to that channel. Configure this destination before using the notification-card review and recovery actions below.

Capture and follow up

Authorized mentions can become credited tickets in mapped channels. Mention DevHub while replying to the original message or completed capture post to add notes and attachments. Use !xatickets <term> to search active tickets.

Notification delivery

Inspect failed cards under Delivery failures. Dismiss old-message alerts hides the reviewed failures locally. Recreate in saved channel posts a replacement card when you choose that action.

08 · Keep durable context

Use the right record for the job.

Work item

A bug, request, feature, or other action someone needs to complete.

Knowledge

A fact, decision, design, procedure, research result, or lesson a future session should retrieve.

Workflow

Multi-step development with intent, phases, checkpoints, blockers, evidence, and a resume point.

Report

A dated interpretation

Use a report for a weekly summary, release draft, health review, validation result, decision record, or handoff. New evidence should produce a new report instead of silently rewriting an approved one.

Knowledge freshness

Timeless · snapshot · pointer

Choose stable facts, dated observations, or a pointer to the living source of truth. Stale means recheck the evidence, not erase the history.

09 · Protect your data

Back up your data folder and attachments.

In Settings → Backups and portable exports, choose Back up now for a database backup or Export Markdown + JSON for readable copies. Use the backups and exports buttons to open the results.

Local firstThere is no XA cloud account, telemetry, or analytics. Network access occurs only for configured features such as Discord or published-version checks.
Data folderdata\ can contain the SQLite database, WAL/SHM files, credentials, logs, attachments, backups, and exports. The local API uses a per-run credential tied to the current Windows user and DevHub instance.
CredentialsCredential-shaped settings are protected with Windows DPAPI for the current Windows profile.
BackupsOn launch, DevHub creates that day's database backup and portable exports if needed. Use Settings for retention, Back up now, and Export Markdown + JSON.
AttachmentsDatabase backups include attachment records, not sibling attachment bytes. Back up ticket-images\ and ticket-files\ separately.
ExportsSecret settings are omitted, but project, contributor, Discord, knowledge, build, and evidence text can still be private. Review before sharing.
AutomationUse the token-authenticated loopback API through devhub-control. Never edit devhub.db directly.

10 · Codex integration

Nine focused skills cover the common workflows.

Choose a skill by the outcome you want. All ten are distributed on XA Docs, separately from the GitHub application source. Install the complete bundle before trying the example requests.

11 · Optional AI setup

Install the skills, then check the connection.

The GitHub repository contains the application. XA Docs hosts the companion skills and their downloads. A skill tells Codex how to help with a task; DevHub must be running for the skill to read or update your records.

  1. 1

    Download the complete bundle

Download the ten-skill ZIP, or inspect individual packages in the skill library. Keep devhub-control alongside the workflow skills because it provides their connection to DevHub. Compare the ZIP checksum with the published value to verify the download.

  2. 2

Extract the skill folders into Codex

For a standard Windows user installation, enter %USERPROFILE%\.agents\skills in File Explorer and create the folder if needed. Extract the ten devhub-* directories directly there, keeping every nested file. Check existing copies before replacing a skill you have customized. The result should include:

    %USERPROFILE%\.agents\skills\
    |-- devhub-control\
    | |-- SKILL.md
    | |-- agents\openai.yaml
    | |-- references\api-contract.md
    | `-- scripts\devhub.ps1
    |-- devhub-add-project\
    | `-- SKILL.md
`-- ...the remaining complete devhub-* folders

Do not leave an extra xa-devhub-skills wrapper folder between skills and the individual directories. Follow the current Codex skill instructions if your setup uses another location.

  3. 3

    Check that Codex sees them

In Codex CLI or the IDE extension, open /skills or type $devhub-control. Skills are normally detected automatically; restart the Codex session if the new folders do not appear. Adding a name to DevHub's Codex skills project field alone does not install it.

  4. 4

    Run a read-only connection check

Start DevHub under the same Windows user. In Windows PowerShell, run:

    $skillRoot = Join-Path $env:USERPROFILE '.agents\skills'
    $dh = Join-Path $skillRoot 'devhub-control\scripts\devhub.ps1'
powershell -NoProfile -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -File $dh -Action health

A successful response confirms the client can reach DevHub. The client finds the current local credential automatically; do not paste API or Discord tokens into an AI prompt. The default needs no configuration file. See the control skill for a custom port or connection troubleshooting.

Try one clear request

Start with a read, then choose a specific task. Replace the example project with your own:

$devhub-control Check health and list projects without making changes.
$devhub-add-project C:\Projects\MyApplication
$devhub-cleanup-tickets My Project
$devhub-prioritize-tickets My Project

Run these as separate requests in Codex. Cleanup presents title and duplicate-merge proposals for approval. Prioritization currently returns ranking and title proposals only, because the public control API cannot yet update an existing ticket's priority. For a copied review bundle, ask $devhub-implementation-confirmer to review it; for implementation, give $devhub-development the exact task you want done.

12 · Keep your installation

Update the app while keeping your records.

  1. 1

Find and back up the complete data folder

Use Settings → open data folder to locate it. Close DevHub, then copy that entire folder to a separate backup location, including any database companions and ticket-images or ticket-files directories.

  2. 2

Keep data separate from the replacement app files

For a source build, retain your data while following the build instructions. If you have a portable binary package, extract all application files together and keep your existing data\ in place. Do not replace your records with an empty data folder from another installation.

  3. 3

    Reopen and check your projects

Confirm your project list and a recent ticket are present. If moving to another Windows profile or machine, protected credentials may need to be entered again; never assume copied credentials will decrypt there.

To use a different data folder, launch with devhub.exe --data-dir "D:\DevHubData". This selects a location; it does not copy your existing records. To uninstall, close DevHub, keep the data or exports you want, and remove its application folder.

Help when something fails

Check the symptom and the next step.

I downloaded a ZIP but cannot find devhub.exe

Choose the Windows portable package under Downloads. The reviewed source ZIP needs a build, and the skills ZIP contains instructions for Codex. Follow First launch for installation.

Python is not recognized, or a project command exits immediately

Try py -3 --version in Windows PowerShell. If that works, use py -3 in the project's saved command; otherwise use the full path to your installed Python executable. Check the script filename, quotes, and working path. A DevHub process opened before a PATH change keeps its old environment; close and reopen it after saving your work. Read the command console for the actual error.

A Build, Prep, Release, or Version button is missing

Open Edit project and fill in the matching command. Blank commands are hidden. DevHub runs your project's scripts; it does not supply a build or publication script for every project.

The version comparison is missing or looks wrong

Set local version file and published version url; add published version key when the remote JSON requires it. Refresh versions. A GitHub repository URL is a shortcut, not a version source, and a version edit does not rebuild an executable.

Codex cannot find a skill or connect to DevHub

Check the folder layout in Install the skills, confirm devhub-control is present, and start DevHub under the same Windows user. Use the read-only health command. For a nondefault port, match the API address shown in Settings using the control client's -BaseUrl. A token printed or copied from an earlier run is not a substitute for current credential discovery.

Discord rejects edits to an old notification card

Open Discord → Delivery failures. Dismiss old-message alerts hides the reviewed failures locally. Recreate in saved channel posts a replacement when you choose it. Existing-card edit limits are a delivery issue; repeatedly running an unrelated project command will not repair them.

Windows reports a missing runtime DLL

Keep the complete application output together. For MSVCP140.dll or VCRUNTIME140.dll, install Microsoft's Visual C++ Redistributable (x64).

For a problem that remains, record the DevHub version, the action you took, the expected result, and the relevant error text. Remove private project details and credentials before opening a GitHub issue. Use the security policy for vulnerabilities.
